I started playing Call of Duty: Warzone the other day on the PS4 but I kinda miss playing games on a PC with keyboard & mouse.

I’m by no means a pro with a keyboard & mouse but I used to be quite handy on CS:GO and I can’t get on with fps with controllers.

But I can’t really go and lock myself in the bedroom and play COD in the evening (kids) so what’s the solution?

Well I have a MacBook Pro 16″ and I didn’t realise but it’s got an alright graphics card. So I’ve bootcamped, made a tiny partition for OS and running COD off of a 128gb USB3 thumbdrive!

How about a mouse though…. on your lap?

Behold… “The Sofa Desk” or “Couch Table”, padded underneath for hours of comfortable ‘working’ and foam side supports, so work doesn’t have to be a ‘balancing act’

STAR WARS Battlefront

I’ve built a budget i5 PC which was just going to be our media PC plugged into the living room TV.

Then I decided I wanted to do a bit of PC gaming, like the olden days. I needed a reasonable graphics card but luckily Xmas was round the corner so that happened.

TV is a 4K Samsung 50″ JU6800 and I’m sat on the Sofa with a wooden toy box lid across my legs and a wireless keyboard and mouse. TV’s big enough and “desk” is stable enough to do gaming in comfort.

Donor PC was £50 from work and had an i5, 8GB RAM and a DVDRW. I already had a nice case in the studio so I bought a cheapo one to replace the studio one with as that’s not on show. Bought a new socket 1150 motherboard and CPU cooler then did some shuffling of disks from my Studio PC, server and wife’s MacBook.

Coupled with the new graphics card it’s performing well.

Completed PC Spec is:

Intel Core i5 4460S 2.9GHz (3.4GHz Turbo Boost) CPU

8GB DDR3 1333MHz RAM

MSI B81M-P33 Motherboard

Corsair Carbide SPEC-01 Case

Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo CPU Cooler

Gigabyte Radeon RX 460 WINDFORCE OC 4GB Graphics

Samsung 128GB SSD for OS

Crucial 240GB SSD for Main (Origin) Games

WD Green 2TB HDD for Media and Steam Library

Logitech MX Master Mouse

Microsoft All-in-One Media Keyboard with Integrated Multi-Touch

Microsoft Windows 10 Pro Operating System

I was spoilt so got STAR WARS Battlefront and Battlefield 1 for Xmas for PC too.

On STAR WARS Battlefront this PC handles 2560×1440 on Medium Graphics averaging 60fps but I perfer the look and feel (and higher frame rates) of running @ 1920×1080 with graphics set to high.

Latest Radeon driver includes Radeon ReLive which lets you record gameplay to video with very minimal impact on Frame-rate. I recorded a clip, below, of me killing someone and being killed. (I could put up load of footage of me being killed)

Although the Logitech MX Master isn’t a gaming mouse, it’s extremely accurate and Wireless was must (whilst retaining a decent polling rate). I wasn’t interested in DPI as that means nothing. Using 50% sensitivity in windows and about 30% in game and that’s more than enough – so plenty left on tap.
